On December 19, a business meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Professor Janita A. Liyanage, was held at the MCCI.
The participants discussed the prospects of cooperation between the businessmen of Moscow and Sri Lanka and also the terms of the business mission to the International Exhibition of Precious Stones and Jewellery “FACETS 2023”, which will be held in Colombo on January 7-9, 2023.
In his welcoming remarks, the MCCI’s Vice President, Mr. Suren Vardanyan, said that he was very pleased that Ms. Liyanage regularly visits the Chamber on a working basis when the interests of the case require it. "It is very good that we are meeting today to talk about a topic that could have a serious follow-up. The Guild of Jewellery Exporters at the MCCI considers to go to the Exhibition with a business mission. This can serve as the first step for further, already systematic participation in this Exhibition," said THE Vice President of the MCCI.
Then he passed the floor to Mr. Alexey Shcherbina, the Chairman of the Guild of Jewellery Exporters at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who noted with satisfaction that contacts with Sri Lanka are beginning to develop into concrete business cooperation. He called Sri Lanka a place of attraction for jewellers because sapphires, topazes, amethysts and other precious stones are mined on the Island.
In her response MsLiyanage added that the Island is the leader in mining natural gemstones. She gave a short presentation on the subject and invited the Moscow jewellery community to participate in the Exhibition.
Mr Shcherbina gratefully acknowledged the invitation and asked the representatives of Sri Lanka to clarify the details and terms of participation and organization of “FACETS 2023” for the Members of the Guild of Jewellery Exporters at the MCCI, and also to assess the possibility of conducting an online business meeting to explore possible topics for discussion.
