The Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a meeting between the MCCI leadership and Sr. Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation.
Opening the meeting, Mr. Vladimir Platonov, the President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: "The current political and economic situation offers excellent opportunities for establishing new ties, contacts, building supply chains and developing a mutually beneficial association.”
Sr. Morato Tavares noted that the most promising areas for cooperation and trade are the Russian imports : oil, oil by-products and mineral fertilisers. He dded that Indonesia allocates subsidies for purchases of hydrocarbons abroad, and which areas for cooperation are supported by their own development. In addition, it was noted that last year there was an increase in tourist flow to Indonesia - in 2022, the country was visited by more than 50 thousand Russian travellers.
According to Mr. Vladimir Polozkov, the Secretary General of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAMC), who participated in the meeting, economic cooperation between Russia and Indonesia was positive in 2022. He expressed hope that this trend will continue this year as well.
In addition to prospects of business cooperation, the participants discussed the Ambassador's initiative to erect a monument in Moscow, dedicated to Indonesia's first President, Mr. Sukarno. "President Sukarno made an invaluable contribution to the relations between our countries," noted the Ambassador. Mr. Platonov informed the distinguished guest about the procedure for coordinating erecting efforts in Moscow, and suggested adding to the application the detailed information about the President Sukarno's merits in the development of Russian-Indonesian relations. According to the participants of the meeting, the monument may become the first landmarked milestone in Moscow, which will be dedicated to cordial relations between Russia and Indonesia.
