For the 13th time, the city of Moscow will host the annual, significant event, dedicated to ecology, the "Earth Hour", organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). In the capital, this endeavour is supported by the Moscow Government and the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources. This year it will be held on March 27, from 20:30 to 21:30.
The goal of the project is to draw attention to the need for preserving nature, to use its gifts wisely and saving the planet's resources. Traditionally, during the “Earth Hour”, millions of people around the world turn off their lights and household appliances, and tens of thousands of auspicious buildings and landmarks turn off their lights as a sign of concern for the future of the planet.
"This is not only a very spectacular event and an opportunity to see an unusual night panorama of the capital - it is a large-scale event that can attract the attention of city residents to the conservation of natural resources and demonstrate that everyone can personally take part in it.
Environmental education is one of the most important tasks of the Department since its creation, so we annually support the campaign, the "Earth Hour”", - said the Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Mr. Anton Kull’bachevsky.
The theme of this year's event is the availability of environmental information. Participants will learn where they can get information about the condition of the environment, what environmental understanding means and how they can contribute to it.
"We call on businesses to support us in this effort, and also plan to expand the eco-educational program in this area, so that information about the state of the environment will be transparent and accessible to the Muscow’s city residents”, added Mr. Kul’bachevsky.
For those who are interested in environmental issues or want to learn more about the theme of the campaign, the WWF-Russia experts prepared a special test. Anyone can take it on the website of the project. The user will have to answer seven questions, after which he or she will receive a memo with valuable instructions.
The "Earth Hour" is the most comprehensive action in the history of mankind. Two billion people from over 180 countries traditionally take part in it. In Russia, the action has been taking place since 2009. Since 2011, from 16 to 20 million Russians have been taking part in the event every year. Last year, the “Earth Hour” was held online for the first time.
In the capital, the event is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Moscow City Government. The Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges all Moscow entrepreneurs to support the "Earth Hour" campaign!
