Mr. Mohammed Cherif Kurta of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, in his response, expressed the interest of the Algerian side in the interaction of respective business communities. "Relations between our countries are characterized by trust, friendship, sincere dialogue, as well as convergence of views on major international issues aimed at establishing a stable understanding that takes into account the changes taking place in the world and respect for international law," the Ambassador said.
He recalled that Algeria is seeking to "move away from hydrocarbon dependency", aims to increase its national agricultural production and tries to increase exports in this sector. The goal is to make the Algerian economy more competitive and more attractive to foreign direct investment. IT, however, is hampered by bureaucratic barriers, which the Algerian Government intends to combat with the most vigorous measures. The Ambassador is convinced that cooperation between Russia and Algeria is very promising, especially with regard to projects in such areas as industry, high technology, agriculture, energy and renewable energy.
In his response, Mr. Vardanyan mentioned wide opportunities of cooperation between the countries, emphasizing that all of them are aimed at cooperation between Algerian and Russian companies. "We sincerely hope that your visit to the Chamber is the first step and we will take those steps more than once. We believe that such meetings are of great benefit to both the Russian and Algerian sides. We are waiting for Algerian companies in Moscow and would like to have an opportunity to organize concrete business meetings between Russian and Algerian businesses," Mr. Vardanyan said.
"The work of the intergovernmental commissions always highlights the main lines of emphasis and discusses more concrete cooperation projects. There is also another mechanism. This is the Algerian-Russian Business Council. Four meetings and two business trips were held within its framework during the year," reminded Mr. Fethie Maitref, the Attaché for Economic Affairs, Embassy of Algeria in Russia.
The Chairman of the MCCI Commission on Foreign Economic Cooperation with Partners in Algeria, Mr. Dmitry Shatunov agreed that the Algerian side is ready to cooperate with Russian companies and said that in April a business mission to Algeria will be organized and invited all interested to participate.
Mokhtar Kernua, an expert in foreign economic activity of GITEK-B LLC, told about the peculiarities of doing business with Algerian partners. Then the participants asked questions and exchanged contacts.
