On 13th of February Moscow Chamber of Commerce hosted a forum "Cooperation between Russia and Lithuania: capability and experience of business partnership in the area of transport, forwarding and logistics", organized by MCCI and JSC " Lithuanian Railways".
As Suren Vardanyan, vice-president of MCCI mentioned, opening a forum, shortening of the duration of transportation to the EU is very relevant for Russian export-oriented companies.
Mr Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Renatas Norkus presented data on the development of transport infrastructure in Lithuania: "The transport sector plays a very important role for Lithuania. From year to year it accounts for more than 10 percent of GDP, and by the end of last year this figure reached 13%. I believe that the potential for transport cooperation between the two countries has not been fully disclosed yet. Lithuania's geographical position allows it to be a transportation hub between East and West, as many transport corridors pass through our country". Renatas Norkus gave examples of international rail and intermodal transport solutions: "At the moment there is a regular movement of container trains "Sun" and "Baltic wind" between Lithuania and Kazakhstan, "Viking" between Lithuania and Ukraine , "Mercury" between Lithuania and Russia, "Sestokai Express" between Poland and Russia".
Attaché commerce of Lithuanian Embassy Remigijus Kabyachyus said: "Russia's share in exports of Lithuania is 19%, imports amount to 31%. In recent years there has been a steady growth in mutual trade. In 2013 the volume of Russian -Lithuanian trade amounted to 13,5 billion euro".
Mrs Svetlana Domnina, Head of MCCI Guild of logistic operators, presented activities of the Guild and shared the experience of interaction with the authorities.
The forum was attended by Vladimir Kashcheev, Head of Freight transportation Division of Moscow region’s Ministry of Transport and Vladimir Panchischin, Head of the Department of freight transport and the development of road transport infrastructure of the Government of Moscow.
Vladimir Kashcheev presented the layout of existing and future terminal and logistics centers in the Moscow region and invited guests of MCCI to pay attention to the container terminal "Tuchkovo".
Lithuanian and Russian entrepreneurs also presented their opportunities for establishing of efficient logistics.
In the conclusion of the forum, Mr Stasis Gudvalis, Deputy General Director of JSC "Lithuanian Railways", said: "I think that next time we should meet in a more extended circle, as not only forwarders and carriers, but also customs, veterinary services and other parties are involved in the supply chain”.
